Every Gritlands session starts on foot. Your legs are the only travel option in Grit Lake, and they’ll carry you everywhere you need to go while Uncle Roger walks you through the basics. Once you leave the lakeshore for the wider world, faster options start showing up as loot — and the way you move through a region begins to matter as much as what you do when you get there.

On foot

Walking is your baseline. It costs nothing, works everywhere, and never runs out. In Grit Lake it’s all you need — distances are short, the terrain is friendly, and every landmark is a quick jog from the campground. Walking is also the only way to travel while you’re carrying a full load out of a gathering run, since rideables generally require your hands free.
Your carry weight affects your walking speed. Overloaded characters slow to a crawl — plan your hauls so you can still move at a reasonable pace back to a Fence or a stash.

Rideables

Once you leave Grit Lake, the world opens up and so do your options. Rideables are personal transport items that live in your inventory and can be deployed on any suitable surface. You don’t buy your first ones from a shop — they drop from the world.

Skateboards

The classic Gritlands rideable. Fast on flat pavement, great for cruising The Row, and a common drop from urban loot piles once you hit Millside and beyond.

Scooters

Kick scooters that fold down into your pack. A steadier ride than a skateboard, easier to control at speed, and forgiving on rougher surfaces.

Rollerskates

Wear them on your feet and roll instead of walking. Slower top speed than a board, but they keep your hands free for lighter loads and short combat encounters.

And more

Rarer rideables show up deeper in the game — the further you push from Grit Lake, the stranger and faster the things you’ll find people rolling around on.

Where they come from

Rideables are loot, not shop stock. You’ll find them in world drops, container spawns, and defeated enemy pickups once you’re past the tutorial region. Common rideables show up frequently around Millside and Grit City; rarer models tend to drop deeper underground and further out. Keep an eye on everything you loot in the early game — a decent board is often the difference between a slow slog back to base and a clean, fast return run.
Rideables don’t help with carry weight — if you’re overloaded, you’re walking. Use them for outbound runs and empty return trips, not for hauling heavy loads.
